Hello,

I found these great websites about assessment and technology:
http://authenticassessment.wordpress.com/category/authentic-assessm...
http://subjectivemetrics.com/index.cfm
This one is with Grant Wiggins:
http://www.ipowerfeedback.com/index.cfm

Let me know what you think or if you know of them.
They look interesting.
Thank you

Love UbD...

I found this through Annotate for Word - it's an add-in for Word 2007 that is a godsend for those of us reading (and/or grading) a lot of drafts. It is a new ribbon for Word that gives you a bunch of plain-text comments that you can add to a document (just like commenting in Word, but better) with a click.

I think this is a related site to the blog you listed above: http://www.11trees.com

Looks really interesting. Have you used it?
Thanks!

I've been using Annotate since I found it via a beta program they ran over the summer. I'm on a distribution list for beta testers, and they're readying a new release that will allow you to edit all of the prewritten comments and add assignment-specific ones on the fly.

My students love the clarity of the feedback.

They're on Amazon (link), but you can get a full 30 day trial if you visit their website directly.

I downloaded Annotate for Word to see how it goes.
I have not used it yet, but will this week end.
After the 30-day trial, we can buy it for $45.
It looks cool.

So what's the verdict on Annotate? I'm getting 45 reesarch paper drafts Friday, and I want to turn them around by Monday, so I'm going to be one grading mama-jamma, and if this thing helps, I'd like to use it. I use extensive voice annotations, which the kids love and makes life easy for me. But this may help, too.

Hi Jim:
I've never used Annotate before. Is it a stock set of explanations / descriptions for the things you find yourself saying over and over againn? Also, have you ever tried inserting voice annotations instead of typed comments or tracked changes? I do and my kids love it. I can also put inflection and speak much faster than I can type. Files get big and clog the email system, but I think it's worth it.

best,

mike

Hello,

It is great.
We should talk about buying it for the department.
Go to 11trees.com and download it for free.
Try it and then we can talk.
That is a great tool for both English and History.
If they could make Spanish and French versions, that would be great.
The feedback is great. It even has a direct link to a website with tips on how to write papers.
Good luck with yours.

If you use Voice annotations you might also be interested in looking at the eMarking Assistant addin to Word 2003 or 2007. It allows you to record audio (and compress it in Word 2007) and also store for reuse in future assignments. It comes with preprogrammed comments which you can modify for you can create your own.

There is a demo at
http://www.baker-evans.com/emarking-assistant/movies/using/
and you can download a 30 dray trial from
http://emarking-assistant.baker-evans.com
